When Speedhunters’ Dino Dalle Carbonare decided to take his project Nissan R34 GTR to another level he knew the stock Hitachi computer had to go. It just so happened the Haltech crew in Japan at the time so we met up with Dino in Yokohama at the Do-Luck workshop for a little brain surgery.

In Dino’s own words: “The Haltech Platinum Pro plug-in ECU seemed almost too good to be true and with a few top tuners in Japan starting to use them it quickly became the perfect choice. So when I heard that the guys from Haltech would be over in Japan it seemed like the perfect opportunity to meet up with them and have their top programmer install and write, with Ito-san from Do-Luck, a simple base map.”

Haltech’s first official visit to Chile, an expansive land of mountains, cars and exotic beaches ended up being more successful than we have anticipated. Chile is one of the longest countries on the planet and we had visitors travel from all corners of the country, some driving thousands of kilometers to Santiago to attend this innagrual Haltech training seminar. For the seminar we have teamed up with ANCLA motorsports and local Chilean workshops.

The first day of the seminar was hosted at the Hotel Militar and concentrated on theory and software setup, allowing us to spend the entire second day of the course at the ultimate racing dyno facility where students were able to undertake various practical exercises with Haltech ECUs. The exercises included setting up and starting an engine from scratch to correctly measuring and setting up any ignition system using the correct tools all the way through to how to dyno tune an engine.

The learning curve was steep but with 25 eager students willing to sponge up as much information as possible everyone walked away with a great deal of knowledge and experience.

Para el seminario nos unimos con la presidencia de ANCLA Motorsports y talleres locales chilenos.

El primer día del seminario se celebró en el hotel Militar y se concentró en la teoría y la instalación del software, lo que nos permitió pasar el segundo día entero del curso en el centro del banco de pruebas de carreras donde los estudiantes pudieron llevar a cabo diversos ejercicios prácticos con Haltech ecus. Los ejercicios incluyeron la configuración y el encendido de un motor desde cero, para medir correctamente y configurar cualquier sistema de encendido, utilizando las herramientas correctas, todo el camino hasta el ajuste y sintonizado fino un motor en el banco de pruebas o Dyno.

La curva de aprendizaje fue empinada, pero con 25 estudiantes ansiosos dispuestos a chupar como esponjas la mayor cantidad de información posible, salieron todos con una gran cantidad de nuevos conocimientos y experiencias.

 

The manufacturer of one of the world’s most interesting cars – the Spartan – dropped one the cars in for some Haltech high-tech wizardry.

This particular car is powered by a Honda Jazz 1.5L engine with a Sprintex supercharger. It will be fitted with a Haltech ECU, IQ3 Logger Dash, Flex Fuel Sensor, Fuel Pressure Sensor, I/O Expander and a Wideband Controller.

The logo on the grille pays a homage to the car’s name.

Supercharged Honda Jazz engine will be controlled by a Haltech ECU.

Small, powerful and lightweight, the Spartan is one of the purest expressions of what a “sports car” should be.

In goes the IQ3 Haltech Dash, and doesn’t it look right at home!

The long-awaited replacement for the popular Nissan 350Z Pro Plug-In ECU is finally here! The new Pro Plug-In is a true stand-alone unit; the OEM ECU is not required at all as the Haltech ECU takes control of all functions, unlike any other tuning solution. No more check engine lights, idle problems, torque limits or rev limiters. The Haltech allows full control over the engine, without complications or compromise.

More Inputs and Outputs
Not only does the Haltech Pro Plugin utilise all the factory inputs and outputs, but it also has auxiliary Inputs and Outputs. These auxiliary pins allow greater functionality, such as boost control, water injection and even Flex Fuel E85 support. If further functions are required, multiple CAN Expansion Devices can be connected to the Haltech.

More Control
The Haltech Pro Plugin has more than double the correction tables available than the previous ECU, with higher resolution and more flexibility. Electronic Throttle control allows the user to define Pedal vs Throttle position as well as user definable Idle Control. Multiple user generic correction tables for Fuel, Ignition and Boost control.

More Functions
Extra Functions such as Boost Control, Launch Control, Anti-lag, Speed Limiter, Nitrous Control are all standard.

When Puerto Rican Creative Performance teamed up with Jan Performance the result was quite spectacular.

The VW Golf, currently the world’s fastest fwd VW, has received a Haltech Sport 1000 resulting in impressive power gains. By “impressive” we are talking 800hp at the wheels – that’s an increase of 85whp with a decrease in boost!

Says Carlos from Creative Performance:
“We applied all the functions of the Sport 1000, managing boost by vehicle speed, based on the rear tires for a constant boost curve. Most of the tunning was done with the closed loop fuel control in which the ECU trims the fuel output to match an AFR map. It’s simple; just write down the AFR you want, do a run, and apply the correction the ECU calculated to end up with the AFR you want!”

“These days for racing applications we use extremely big turbos for the engine used and this one is no exception. Thankfully the technology within the Haltech ECU, namely the Launch Anti Lag, allows us to reach any boost level we want at launch.”

The words of the owner after seeing the result speak volumes: “I should have done this change much sooner!”

The two-day training seminar combines class-room style theory learning with hands-on practical applications. Topics will include advanced trigger setup, custom sensor applications, advanced idle functionality and dyno tuning demonstrations.

The seminar will be held In Dubai on Saturday 26th, Sunday 27th and Monday 28th of May.
