Haltech powers Ariel Atom

The guys at Creative Performance are an inventive lot. Take this Ariel Atom 3 as an example – the factory Ecotec engine was originally supercharged but Creative Performance like turbos better. So out went the supercharger in favour of a turbo.

All the internals were upgraded to forged parts and the cylinder head modified to get a better flow. Next came the all important engine management in the shape of a Haltech Sport 1000 managing four individual stock coils, 850 cc injectors in a sequential mode, boost control by gear position, thermo and intercooler fans, electric water pump, anti-lag input etc. Final addition was the Racepak IQ3 dash to display all the data from the Haltech ECU.

After a few preliminary dyno pulls, the Atom produced a promising 482bhp with 370 punds of torque, using a relatively small turbo (GT30-71R).  The next stage will see the car tested on the road coarse and then an attempt to try and break the local track record.

“The boost by gear is one of the best tools in the ECU, letting us manage the power. With only 1200 pounds, it’s a very light car and grip is extremely important!”
