First race and first victory for Grudnik!

The debut of his new Renault Clio E1 race car could not have gone better for Matej Grudnik.

The first race of the Slovenian Hill Climb Championships saw 146 teams from 9 countries compete on a challenging, 4.3km Gorjanci hill climb track.

The weather was hot and humid placing plenty of pressure on both the drivers and the machines.

Despite having done almost no pre-event testing, Matej hit the ground running pushing the brand new car to its limits.

“We’ve had a few teething problems, which was to be expected with a new, untested car, but we managed to fix them all.”

Matej perservered and snatched the victory against a very competitive field.

“In the end, we were fast enough to win our first race which is the best way to debut a new car!”

With this inaugural win Matej sits proudly at the top of the championship table with his Clio ranked 3rd overall in the European Cup.

Matej’s Renault is controlled by Haltech’s Elite 1500. The ECU runs the engine with variable intake camshaft, DBW and boost control.

Thomas and Roman from ECU Performance who installed and tuned the engine management system have implemented a host of advanced race options like rally-style anti-lag, traction control and adjustable launch RPM. The ECU also controls the electronic XAP Shifter unit on the sequential gearbox with steering mounted paddle shift.
