Haltech Heroes: Connelley Racing’s ProCharged Ford Mustang

Martin Connelley has only ever wanted one thing, to be the fastest. Well now he’s got it. His latest ride, a ProCharged 1986 Fox Body Mustang backed by the Connelley Racing team, IS the fastest, and the quickest in their class.

Connelley Racing campaigns this car in the DXP235 class which mandates a 235 width drag radial. This means traction is limited and making the most of what you have is critical.

Up front sits a 363ci Small Block Ford built by BES Racing Engines and fueled by VP Q16. Backed by a TH400 built by RPM Transmissions and fed into an 8.8″ Ford gear. A Haltech Elite 2500 keeps the whole setup in check.

The car finished 2018 as nitrous motivated and in the just 30 days, January 2019, it was transitioned to ProCharged power.

Since then, Martin and team have been very consistent in their 2019 season, setting and resetting records and claiming class wins at every event they attend.

“I love to be able to dial the car in at the line without having to open a laptop.”

One of their favorite features of the Haltech system, the team uses the map selection knobs frequently to dial in launch RPM and manage power delivery.

The interior is rather spartan. Opting for simplicity, a small selection of gauges allows Martin to focus on the drive. Haltech ECU’s engine protection working in the background to make sure everything stays safe.

According to Martin: “The best part about racing is the team. It’s a team effort.” Connelley Racing has enjoyed success in every season thanks to a strong team mentality. Martin may drive the car, but the team takes the win.

We’d like to congratulate Martin, car owner Ed McCarty, tuner Eric Mitchell and the rest of the Connelley Racing team for the success they’ve experienced this year.
