JDMYard’s Civic – Australia’s Fastest all-motor Honda

400hp at the wheels and 9.6@137mph. Considering the car that lays claim to these figures is a naturally aspirated, 2.7L, front wheel drive Honda you can’t help but feel awed by the little pocket rocket.

The heart of this beast is a high revving Honda K24A stroked to 2.7L with a custom crank, billet aluminium rods and lightweight pistons. A massive carbon fibre intake feeds 67mm throttle bodies.

The engine is “lean mounted” to improve the intake angle and place more weight over the front axles.

Hood-exiting exhaust is short and lightweight and has been known to produce spectacular flames.

Elite 1500 is the brain of the engine management setup consisting of three Wideband O2 Controllers hooked up to five wideband sensors, four EGTs with a Thermocouple Amplifier and an IQ3 Display Dash. Data logging is done on the Elite 1500.

The interior is simple and purposeful with the focus on weight savings quite apparent. The car weighs just under 800kg (1760 pounds) which goes a long way towards securing its impressive power-to-weight ratio.

PPG four speed, H-pattern transmission is controlled by a billet shifter which, in conjunction with Elite 1500 allows flat shifting.

The whole package is a credit to builders and the tuner. It’s simplicity coupled with clever engineering prove that you don’t need big displacement and power adders to break records. With its best ET of 9.6@137mph this is not only Australia’s fastest all-motor Honda but a deceptively fast FWD that can give many turbocharged and supercharged rwd and awd imports a good run for their money.
