Stratton making waves in Formula Drift Pro2

The 2017 Formula Drift Pro2 series has been quite successful for Team Stratton Racing thus far. The team first travelled to Orlando Florida to compete at Orlando Speedworld. Dirk Stratton layed down some very impressive runs netting him a 5th qualifying position out of 24 drivers.

In the Top 16 tandem battle Dirk moved on besting Matt VanKirk.

One of the biggest tasks at hand this year for Dirk is having to match the lower speeds of most of the Pro2 field. Due to this learning curve the Stratton Racing Driftvette went out in the “Great8” to Kevin Lawrence for a 7th place finish in Orlando.

The second round of the Pro2 championship series took place at Road Atlanta in Braselton Georgia. Dirk felt comfortable and confident after practice and qualifying on Thursday. The Driftvette scored 86 point qualifying run, good enough for 2nd place out of 29 drivers!

“The car was working great and the entire team was ecstatic, unfortunately mother nature stepped in and gave us the challenge of running the course in wet conditions.”

Dirk quickly adapted his driving and faced Crick Filippi in the Top 16 battle. After taking a hit to the door on entry Dirk kept the car on track and finished his lead run. On the chase run Dirk rode tight to Filippi’s door through the horseshoe and the rest of the course scoring a win and moving on to the next round.

Dirk bowed out after an intense battle against Randall Waters. “I just went a little too hard and fast given the track conditions at that time.”

Stratton Racing finished the second round of Formula Drift Pro2 with a 5th place position and an overall 6th place after both events.

Dirk and his team plan to continue practicing and drifting at demo events such as Street Driven Tour, Hyperfest, GridLife and MDU until the next round of Formula Drift in Seattle, Washington on August 4th.

Dirk’s Driftvette is using Haltech’s Elite Series engine management system.
