FAQs

Q: Why do I need a Haltech ECU?
A new Programmable Engine Management system is required when the engine has been modified beyond the standard specifications. Once an aftermarket exhaust, turbo, camshaft etc is added to the engine, the factory ECU will no longer be able to control the engine to its new potential.

Q: Can I use a Haltech ECU on any engine?
Haltech ECU’s can be used on most petrol engines. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12 cylinder engines are supported. As well as 2 and 3 Rotor engines. Please contact your local Haltech Dealer if you have any questions about a specific engine.

Q: How much extra power will my engine make?
This is a question that can only be estimated after Dyno testing by your local Haltech Dealer.

Q: Will my fuel economy get better or worse?
It will get better, but once again, dyno testing before an aftermarket ECU is fitted to your car will give an indication of how rich/lean your engine is running. From these results your Dyno tuner will be able to inform you of the potential fuel savings to be had.

Q: What should I look for when selecting my engine management system?
There are many differences between engine management systems. Things to look at include:
The number of inputs and outputs. Having more inputs and outputs offer more functionality in the way of ignition and injection types as well as extra outputs to control extra devices. Tuning resolution is also very important. The Haltech systems have 32×22 point mapping which gives excellent tuning potential. Finally, remember to make sure your ECU has closed loop O2 control, idle control and boost control all as standard.

Q: Who should I call to talk about tuning my engine?
See the Dealer Locator tab in the navigation for your closest Haltech dealer details.

Q: Can I tune the car myself?
You can certainly tune your engine using a Haltech ECU, however we strongly recommend to take the car to an Authorised Haltech tuner if you are unsure about the tuning procedure.

Q: Where do I obtain the tuning software?
The tuning software comes on a programming CD at the time of purchase. Alternatively you could visit the Downloads page on the Haltech website to download the tuning software.

Q: Do Haltech products have Warranty?
Yes, Haltech warrants its products to be free from any fault due to materials or workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase.

Q: I am doing an engine conversion can I use a Haltech kit instead of the factory wiring harness?
Yes, This avoids the need for the messy factory wiring harness when doing an engine conversion.

Q: I bought an import engine but it has no wiring harness what can I do?
We may have a plug-in loom available for your vehicle, or Haltech can supply long wiring harness which can then be terminated to length on any engine, in any car. The Haltech harness comes with fuse block and relays.

Q: Does Haltech technical support come with the unit when I buy it?
Technical support is provided through the Authorised Haltech Dealer the unit is purchased from.

Q: I have never done anything like this before can a first time user install and setup a Haltech ECU?
To successfully install an Engine Management System you will need a good understanding of the ECU, as well as your engine. All ECU’s come with the Haltech manual on CD, however as a first time installer it is often handy to have some guidance from your Authorised Haltech Dealer along the way.
