2023 BRISBANE JAMBOREE

Once again sunny Queensland played host to the annual Brisbane Jamboree Sports Compact Drag Racing event at Willowbank Raceway and as always it certainly did not disappoint! Jam-packed with a show ‘n’ shine display, food stalls, traders, spectators, and most importantly drag racers with tough cars bringing plenty of action.

Ben Davis repping Real Dyno Performance made it all the way into the finals of the Street Compact class.

He propelled his Haltech-controlled, Barra-powered Holden Commodore wagon down the strip with an 11.1 @ 125mph flawless run and claimed the class win. Very impressive for his first-ever event!

The all-Haltech final in the Modified 10.5 class was a race worth waiting for! Josh Moore‘s first-ever Jambo was deemed a great success after claiming the win with an 8.6 @ 161mph pass in his Ford Falcon ute over Phil Penny‘s 2JZ big-boosted Honda S600.

Jared Blair from King Kong Racing smashed out a new record making him Australia’s quickest IRS Toyota Supra with a 7.3 at 191mph run!

Jared’s white Toyota Supra is equipped with an Elite 2500 ECU.

Parry Georgis and his little red Gemini ran very well over the rounds and ended up walking away with the Runner-Up trophy in the Modified Compact class with a 10.5 @ 137.81mph pass.

The Maatouk’s Racing team dominated the Pro Turbo class early in the weekend, with George Haramis and his “GH0747” Toyota Supra running a series of super-consistent passes making him the Top Qualifier in the class.

George took home the Runner-Up trophy in the Pro Turbo class with a run of 7.1 @ 207mph.

Anthony Maatouk is a busy man, and due to work commitments originally decided not to enter the event, but Jambo head-honcho Collin Willshire twisted his arm and convinced him to bring out the crowd-favorite VL GOD at the last minute. As per usual Anthony’s burnouts were a sight to see, but unfortunately, a hurt engine kept him out of the Pro Turbo finals.

Michael Silk piloted Scott Hoffman‘s all Haltech-controlled newly reincarnated no-prep Toyota panel van “THINGS” and PB’d with a 7.7 @ 182mph.

“I am over the moon with running a 7 and also being trusted to steer such an amazing car!” -Michael Silk

Luke Redman from Goleby’s Parts was fixed behind the steering wheel of his not-so-average 1JZ-powered 1981 Toyota Corona and ran a PB of 8.2.

Staying in the Goleby’s Parts stable, Naomi Van der Togt and her 2JZ-powered S15 Silvia were amongst the mix of things with a mph PB of 168.8.

Another PB in the books was hit by William Yarwood in his Haltech-controlled Toyota Supra with an 8.6 @ 159.82.

Kristian Goleby‘s 1JZ Corolla might look like an old, rusty delivery wagon, but those who underestimate it – do so at their own peril. This Haltech-equipped wagon is no joke!

Justin Gregory from Blacktrack Performance showcased his epic 2JZ-powered Mazda RX7.

Justin’s whole setup is controlled by the Nexus R5 VCU and is also equipped with an iC-7 display dash along with an array of sensors.

Ben “Skippy” Slaughter debuted his beautifully-prepared Mk-III Toyota Supra and spent the majority of the weekend making small adjustments to hone in on a perfect run.

“I’m very happy with what we achieved over the weekend. Our never say die attitude and taking it step by step is paying off. We are very determined to break into the elusive six-second club.”

Ben’s 2JZ beast is boosted by a GCG turbo and a Nexus R5 VCU controls the entire vehicle.

One of the usual suspects – Disco Dean Ferris came to play in his Barra-powered Real Dyno Performance Ford Escort panel van.

Keeping it in the Barra family was Nathan Peters and his eye-catching purple Valiant.

All in all, it was another great Jambo. Check out our full gallery of pics below.
