Haltech Unveils EV Concept Car at SEMA

Haltech was the first company in the world to create real-time tuning for internal combustion engines. Back in 1986, we were the future. Now, in 2023 we’re showing you a new future for Haltech.

Haltech’s Electric Vision

This year Haltech is exhibiting at SEMA as part of the Race Winning Brands stand. Featured on that stand are two Shelby Cobras. One represents the “old guard”. Powered by a big internal combustion V8 engine, fed by *shudders* a carburetor. The other represents “the future”.

The matte black machine has been upgraded with a Core EV Conversion Kit. Power comes from a Cascadia Motion SS-250 Gen2 Single Stack motor which sits in the usual spot under the Cobra’s hood. Power is transferred to the rear wheels by a gearbox and conventional driveshaft and diff combination.

Output is 4,450ft lb at the rear wheels. In a car weighs only 2550lbs, that’s good for a 0-60mph time of 2.7 seconds.

In recent years Haltech has moved beyond engine management, and begun to include offerings such as dashes and more recently power management and body control devices. The Nexus R5 and R3 are the first devices in the world to combine both engine management and power distribution in the one box.

This Cobra features full Haltech body control, including PD-16, iC-7 dash, Tyre pressure monitoring, and a very special Experimental Prototype EV Supervisor.

Nathan Clark, President of Haltech said “Engine swaps are at the core of business. We’re making things easier for people who want to LS-swap their vehicles with the release of the Rebel LS here at SEMA, and we see that in the future more and more people will want to EV swap their classic cars, so it makes sense that we begin to explore this technology.
We still have much learning and development to do before a full Haltech EV system will be ready for market, but it is exciting to share this glimpse into the future for Haltech.”
