Chris Smith and the Angry Smurf

Affectionally known as the “Angry Smurf”, Chris’ 1970 Camaro turns heads on and off the racetrack!

Chris Smith of “Smitty’s Custom Automotive” needs no introduction if you’ve spent any time following the autocross and road course scene in America. A car guy since way back, his first car was a 1967 GMC pickup that he bought and built with his old man, but he’s better known now for the blue beast you see before you, a 1970 Camaro affectionately known as the “Angry Smurf”.

Smitty’s Custom Automotive was established in 1999 by Chris and Mike Smith. Through hard work and providing excellent service, the shop has now grown to 7500 square feet and has seven employees. They specialise in building show cars and trucks, anything from frame-off restorations to turn-key street rods.

Powering the Second-Gen Camaro is an LS7 paired with a Pfitzner Performance 6-speed sequential, Speedtech suspension with an IRS rear end, Willwood brake package and Forgeline wheels.

A Nexus R5 is in control of the whole car with a uC-10 Dash, laser ride height sensors, Tyre pressure and temperature sensors as well as a suite of engine and gearbox sensors, ensuring everything is as it should be while being pushed to the limit.

Chris’ Camaro is still somewhat “street car”, but is as close to a race car as you can get it.
