Jason Ferron is one of those adrenaline junkies who chased the rush all the way up to drifting. We were lucky enough to have the Keep it Reet bossman take us through the ins and outs of his super-unique Haltech-equipped Ford Barra-powered Nissan Skyline R31 Wagon.

What started as a small private group of friends hitting the track grew into Keep it Reet, a thriving brand known for hosting large drift events and giveaways. Even through tough times like COVID, KIR strived to keep the drifting spirit alive by posting various car builds on their YouTube channel.

Jason was always a thrill seeker from a young age, he was obsessed with BMX and mountain bike riding. However, once he got his license, the rush of drifting took over almost instantly. His passion quickly shifted from bikes to cars, and he hasn’t looked back since.

Let’s take a closer look at “Barrawagz”, Jason’s Barra-powered Nissan Skyline R31 Wagon. Unlike most cars on the track, it’s a unique, eye-catching choice, and Jason made it his own with countless modifications over the years.

His decision to use the Ford Barra 4.0L engine in the wagon turned out to be a game-changer. The powerhouse delivers 900 horsepower, with turbo boost and a rev range extending up to 8500 RPM, making it perfectly suited for the demands of drift racing.

Now over to the electronics, the car has been fully rewired by Jason’s good friend, Jesse Scott. The whole setup is powered by the Haltech Nexus R5 VCU, which manages everything – no fuse boxes or relays needed. The iC-7 digital dash displays key data, while a 15-button CAN keypad gives Jason full control at his fingertips.

The R31 Wagon was built from the ground up at the Keep it Reet factory, with Jason’s team handling everything in-house, from sandblasting the chassis to installing the suspension and engine. The car is a testament to their craftsmanship and dedication.

Jason made a splash internationally, debuting Barrawagz at D1NZ National Drifting Championship in New Zealand and by taking second place in the Australian Championship. Competing in events like World Time Attack further cemented the car’s reputation as a top contender.

Jason’s advice to newcomers:
“Start small. Don’t rush into building a high-cost drift car. Learn the basics, get seat time, and then upgrade when you’re ready. Too many people dive into expensive builds without experience and end up leaving the sport.”

Jason’s journey in the drifting world is just getting started. With his trusty R31 Wagon still going strong, he continues to push the boundaries of the sport, inspiring new drifters along the way.
