New Zealand’s Mad Mike Whiddett is famous for two things – his insane competence behind the wheel as vehicles go sideways very fast, and his affinity for Mazda’s rotary engine.
We should clarify the latter, because there’d be nothing Mad about simply shoving 13B turbocharged engines into anything with four wheels. No, Mad Mike has a sickness for shoving custom multi-rotor engines into the most exotic chassis possible, and his latest MadMac build sums that up perfectly.

Mad Mike traces his love of drift back to the slippery gravel roads that connected the New Zealand farms he spent his formative years on, and after spending some time competing and subsequently hurting himself in MotoCross and Freestyle MotoCross he started chasing adrenaline in a different way, entering his rotary-powered street cars in drift and burnout comps around New Zealand.

His love of drifting and a fierce competitive streak led him to building perhaps his most iconic car, MADBUL, which he took to the pointy end of drifting in New Zealand before entering D1GP in California where his wild-revving triple rotor-powered FD RX7 and fearless driving style made him a household name.

Debuted at Goodwood Festival Of Speed in 2024, MADMAC is based on a McLaren P1 GTR and is – without exception – the world’s wildest McLaren. The story of Bruce McLaren is one that Mad Mike sees much of himself in; both of them New Zealand-based rev heads with a dream of success in high-level motorsport.

MADMAC is powered by a turbocharged triple-rotor that makes over 1000hp, and is controlled by a Nexus R5 with an iC-7 dash keeping Mike informed while he’s ripping the McLaren.
