Steve Cox is the proprietor of F40 Motorsport, a venture that began around two decades ago. The name “F40” originates from a previous Ferrari project that Steve initiated, and the moniker has persisted ever since.

Since his early 20s, Steve has been immersed in racing, initially rallying in Datsuns, Escorts, and even the formidable Daihatsu Charade. Although he briefly ventured into circuit racing, his heart always remained in rallying. After a hiatus, Steve reentered the rally scene with a custom-built 1984 Toyota Starlet. However, as time went on, he yearned for something more serious, leading to the inception of the Audi project.

The entire project began with a singular aim: crafting a tribute car. However, rather than building a true replica of the rally group b Audi Quattro, he opted for this route due to the considerable challenge of sourcing parts in Steve’s native New Zealand.
Steve’s Audi bears a striking resemblance to the Group B Audi in its appearance, sound, engine, gearbox, and differential, all infused with a touch of modern technology.

The heart of the Audi is a 3B engine dating back to the 1980s, now paired with a sizable turbocharger, forged pistons, forged rods, custom head, reprofiled camshafts and adjustable cam gears.

The Audi boasts a 6-speed gearbox complemented by a lengthy handbrake lever, aiding in cornering. Its paddle shifters serve dual purposes: one for controlling wipers and washes, and the other for boosting acceleration in specific track sections. With fully functional indicators, horn, and lights, the car is roadworthy in every aspect.
Steve’s Audi features a Nexus R5 VCU and a PD16 PDM. Positioned in the footwell, the R5 manages front-end components like the engine and headlights, while the PD16 oversees rear-end systems including fuel pumps, radiators, coolers, fans, and crucial lights such as brake lights and rear turn signals. Additionally, the Audi is outfitted with an iC-7 digital dashboard paired with a 15-button CAN keypad.

Steve’s rally-spec Audi stands as a testament to precision engineering and cutting-edge technology. Audi represents the fusion of automotive innovation and motorsport prowess, ready to conquer the most challenging terrains with unwavering confidence and capability.
