King of the Street 2022
What a day! Victoria turned on its best weather for Tunnel Vision‘s annual King of the Street. Held at the Heathcote Park Raceway, the event attracted the best and the fastest street cars from all over the state.

All hail the new kings!
The racing ran well into the evening plenty of exciting head-to-head battles. The main prize went to Alex Moshopoulo who got crowned the KOTS 2022 Grand Champion.

The fastest pass of the day went to George Chalikouras in his Capri with an 8.1sec pass. His Ford Capri is powered by a Haltech-controlled, twin-turbo Chevy 350.

Sam El-Haouli took out the Open class in his turbo LS-powered Holden LX Torana “WARTYM” using Haltech’s Elite 2500 ECU.

Barra Overload
This Barra-powered F100 truck was one of our absolute favourites at the event. It took Ryan over 2 years to build the beast and it’s great to finally see it at the track. The 1320hp turbo Barra is backed with a PowerGlide, custom 4-link and a 9”” rear end by Riotlab. Mackielec Industries are responsible for wiring the car and installing the Haltech Nexus R5. Tuned by Tunnel Vision Turbocharging.

Zlatko Nastoski‘s Barra-powered 1966 Ford Mustang wouldn’t look out of place in a showroom – just look at that engine bay! The turbo Barra makes over 700hp and is controlled by a Haltech Elite ECU.

Winning Windsor
Danko Knezevic competed in the 275 class in his Ford Capri powered by a 434ci Dart Windsor with two 70mm Precision turbos providing the boost. The whole setup is controlled by Haltech’s Elite 2500T.

FPV FTW!
Daniel Fletcher’s FPV F6 terrorized the Open class with its Haltech-controlled Barra Plugin ECU.

Wagon Wheels
Jake Cartledge campaigned his Haltech-controlled, turbo Barra-powered VK Commodore wagon.

More Barra Badassery!
And speaking of Barra-swapped cars, Joshua Tuskin classy XY Falcon (also powered by a Haltech-controlled Barra) competed in the Open class.

George Kotinis’ beautifully presented, RB-powered Holden VL.

Lutfi Yalcin‘s EB Falcon XR6 “JNRFPV” is powered by Barra’s (some say superior) predecessor – the SOHC Intech. Lutfi’s Falcon is controlled by a Haltech Elite 2500 ECU and tuned by Jason from Tunnel Vision.

Meck-Tech decided to forego both the Barra and the RB and instead squeezed a turbo LS in their VL Commodore.

Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up:
DYO 1st Luke Cartledge – Holden Torana
DYO 2nd Kenny Perry – Holden Premier HK
255 1st Ross Puliafito – Mazda RX3
255 2nd George Hatzi Silver XF
275 1st Alex Moshopoulos – Ford Falcon XY
275 2nd Matt Brame – Holden Torana
Open 1st Sam – Holden Torana WARTYM
Open 2nd Loz – Holden Commodore VL
Lights Out 13
What a roller coaster of a weekend for the Lights Out 13 Drag Radial event at South Georgia Motorsports Park! With gorgeous but warm weather, the track was difficult during the daytime but prompted record-setting conditions at night. Let’s catch you up on what happened!
Radial vs the World
Shew! Jason Lee of PTP Racing put the field on notice this past weekend in Radial vs the World. The Coast Packing Camaro (featured HERE last year) made its first appearance on a drag radial in over a year and that meant a learning curve was to be expected.

In testing on Tuesday, Jason and crew saddled up for its first few hits where it managed to go 3.60’s however a post-inspection found the crankshaft had split in HALF. Leaving them to scramble and install a backup engine for Wednesday’s qualifying session. With only a few hours to spare and no more testing, the Nexus-R5 controlled pro mod entered the lanes to gather some data.

Leaving off the trans brake, the “Lard Machine” laid down an impressive 3.57 @ 207 MPH! Good enough to put Jason on the top of the qualifying sheets for the race on Friday. But his epic performance wasn’t over yet, wherein in Q2 he reset the #1 spot with a 3.54 pass!
Things only progressed from there, continuing his reign of terror with a 3.515 @ 207 MPH in Q3 until his final qualifying pass where he did the unthinkable. Leaving with a .889 60-foot, Jason rocketed down the lane to a 3.499 @ 209.52 MPH leaving him just .001 off the existing drag-radial tire record! This was his first pass in the 3.4X zone and the fact that this car spends the majority of its time on a much larger Drag Slick makes his feat even more impressive.

His incredible performance in qualifying transferred into eliminations easily clearing the field by a tenth of a second. However, a very warm Saturday ended his final-round chances when he struck the tires early on in the second round. An unfortunate ending to his run, but that does not overshadow his dominant exhibition throughout the week.
DXP Street

Michael Strickland and his VMS-Controlled Trans Am qualified 12th with a 5.35 @ 128 MPH on Thursday putting him in the lower half of the ladder for eliminations. Michael would not be deterred, however, squaring off with Bill Kubiac (#1 Qualifier) in the semi-finals. Both drivers spun off the tree but in a true pedal-fest, Michael was able to squeeze out a win over Kubiac in a major upset!

His final round found him facing #3 qualifier Eddie Ramirez and his ‘88 Mustang, but Michael continued his epic run giving him the overall class win and DXP Street bragging rights until we return in November for No Mercy!
Honourable Mentions

Brian Keep and the Keep Racing Team qualified third in Ultra Street with a 4.543 @ 153 MPH. The Red Camaro has been a top contender in the Ultra Street championship for several seasons and this year looks to be no different. After clinching a first-round victory, a difficult, slippery track cost him in the second round and ended his weekend.

Larry Salvator purchased the Summers Motorsports Mustang early last week and flew into SGMP to make his first passes in the Limited Drag Radial prepped car. Steve Summers put what he felt was a good A to B tune-up in the Elite 2500 and Larry laid down a 4.06 @ 190MPH, a career-best! This was good enough to qualify 14th in the largest LDR field in history.

Nick Agostino made the trek from Ontario Canada down to SGMP with his Nexus R5 controlled Camaro. Entering Pro 275, the beautiful black chevy qualified fourth with a 3.78 @ 214 MPH! A career-best on both accounts!

Super Lap Battle COTA
It was a busy weekend at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX. With a doubleheader event featuring the Super Lap Battle series and the GridLife Touring Car Class (GLTC), it was destined to be a great season opener. We had a chance to catch up with a few Haltech customers, read on to hear about their incredibly successful weekends!

Attacking The Clock Racing – Podium in Pro/Comp Class
We featured Shawn Bassett’s Epic 240Z last year, and the carbon-bodied Datsun has only improved since we last spoke. With its turbo LS powerplant and radical suspension, it was a top contender all weekend.

Aside from a few minor hiccups as they dialled in the suspension settings, the Haltech Nexus R5 controlled 240Z fought its way to a third-place finish in the Pro/Comp class. Great job Shawn and team!
James Houghton Wins Race 1 of GLTC @ SLB

James Houghton made the trek down from Ontario, Canada to COTA with his K-Tuned GLTC Acura TSX. The Elite 1500 controlled Acura is one of only a handful of FWD cars left in the field and James showed he is a master of managing tire temps on the opening round of the weekend. Getting to an early lead, he extended the gap to three seconds before going into conserve mode. Finishing with just under a second lead over the rest of the pack he made it look easy securing his first win of the season.
Nick Kohrs Sets New FWD Record in SLB Street Class @ COTA

Nick Kohrs and his 8th generation Honda Civic has been a solid force in the Super Lap Battle Street Modified class. His performance this past weekend was no exception when he set the new FWD record for the SM class with a 2:25.806! Although that didn’t result in a win, his new COTA record helped solidify the Haltech Elite controlled Honda as the top FWD car in the class.
We want to thank all three drivers and their teams for an excellent performance this past weekend at Circuit of the Americas. Know of a race win or achievement we should know about? Be sure to tag us in your social posts with #haltech or @ us with @haltechecu on Instagram!
Mint 400
Haltech USA crew ventured out to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Mint 400 to showcase some Haltech controlled vehicles and provide tech support to racers.

The Fire Guys Racing Toyota and Billy Gereghty’s Class 1 racer drew plenty of attention from racers keen to see the cars’ engine management setup.

With roughly 400 miles of rough desert terrain on tap, racers like Josh Cobb and the rest of the Trophylite series were eager to get out and show how capable their trucks were.

This being the last Trophylite points race of the season, the championship battle was tight and there were quite a few bumps and broken parts unsettling the standings. Of the 10 trucks entered, only five made it to the finish!

Haltech-controlled Josh Cobb Racing team was coming off a big win at the Best in the Desert race in November but an unfortunate failure ended their chances of backing up his performance. This left the door wide open for Larry Schmueser III of Schmueser Racing to come through and snag the class win!

While Larry and the team had a nearly flawless race over the entire 400-mile run, it was actually Greg Bragg of GB Racing who took home the 2021 Trophylite championship.

We had a blast catching up on all of the off-road action at the Mint 400 and look forward to seeing all of the epic rides at the King of the Hammers in January!

Street Machine Summernats 2022
Australia kicks off the new year with a massive horsepower party with hot rods, muscle cars, classics, and restomods taking over the nation’s capital for a week of modded motoring mayhem.
Australian revheads descending upon Canberra were greeted with unseasonally cool weather and even occasional thunderstorms. Not that the freak weather deterred many, with sizeable crowds flocking to the venue to participate in the annual ritual.

There was no shortage of automotive candy of all kinds to satisfy even the most demanding of connoisseurs.

One of Summernats’ main attractions – Tuff Street – was buzzing (or rather groaning) with the sounds of lumpy cam rides cruising around the compound with the occasional skid or two.

The Mequiars Pavilion showcased the country’s best new builds dazzling visitors with chrome, paint and mind-blowing designs.

Our favourite (yeah, we’re biased) was Justin Simpson’s HT Holden Monaro GTS. The beast is powered by a Nitrous-fed, 615ci Big Block Chevy. The whole thing is controlled by a Haltech NEXUS VCU with Haltech’s iC-7, CAN Keypad plus a whole lot of sensors.

It turns out we weren’t the only fans of the car as Justin’s Monaro came 1st in the Competition category and 3rd in the Special Effects category.

Our other long-standing favourite was Glenn Noonan’s spectacular 1932 Ford Tudor. Now street-registered, the car makes over 600hp thanks to its Haltech-controlled, 400ci, blown, small block.

Haltech’s stand in the Rare Spares Pavilion featured Benny’s Barra-powered Mustang which drew plenty of attention.

One of the standouts outside was The Castlemaine Rod Shop’s Ferrari-powered Torana. It’s already looking great despite still being a work-in-progress. Can’t wait to hear it roar!

The Skid Row provided plenty of opportunities to shred rubber. This graveyard of tyres proved to be one of the most popular spots in the compound.

Over in the Haltech Horsepower Heroes hall, Adam and his crew from MPW were kept busy with a strong line-up of competitors keen to prove their worth on the dyno.
Henry Winter’s “FLEXEN” turbo Barra powered FG Falcon laid down 1256hp (937kW) beating Benny’s Cresta in the six cylinder class and taking the outright win in the process. Congratulations to all involved in the build!
Ben Neal from Benny’s Custom Works, walked away with the Boost Demon award for the most boost seen in any car across the weekend. His Barra-powered Cresta copped a massive 45psi and pushed out 1134hp (846kW).

Of course Summernats wouldn’t be Summernats without burnouts and this year’s event boasted the biggest Burnout Masters field ever with Tim Brown eventually taking the Champion trophy in his blown Holden Commodore.
The title of the Street Machine Summernats 34 Grand Champion went to Jason Mansweto and his ‘2ENIL8’ Ford Falcon.

Congratulations to all and see you again next year!

PRI 2021: PD-16 Teaser, Wild Rides & More!

With the challenges the industry and our customers have faced these last couple of years, we looked forward to the Performance Racing Industry convention in Indianapolis. Not only to show off what our team has developed but to also see the wild and innovative racecars our customers built. Let’s just say, that this past weekend’s event did not disappoint. Read on to catch up on the latest and greatest from PRI 2021!

This year, we took a new approach by inviting the visitors to get hands-on with our products. With an interactive display showing off the NEXUS VCU, visitors could see how the CAN keypad and iC-7 provided a seamless plug-and-play experience. There were also two stations with live, ESP to NSP demonstrations to show customers the benefits of the major software package update for Elite ECUs.

The major announcement, however, was our new CAN-enabled PDM, dubbed “PD-16”. This NSP-controlled device is designed to simplify the customer’s wiring and provide a power distribution expansion for both NEXUSs and Elite ECUs. We believe this device will continue to modernize Haltech customer vehicles and help them ditch those old, slow factory fuse blocks with a safe, simple, solid-state solution. Be sure to follow our social media and YouTube channel for more information on this product when it comes closer to the on-sale date in 2022.

As for wild and innovative, look no further than the current crop of “No Prep Kings” racecars scattered throughout the convention. Chris Michaels’ Gucci Nova has been making headlines, as the fresh Larry Jeffers build stunned passers-by with its incredible attention to detail and candy paint. The Noonan Hemi and Rossler 400 are controlled by a Haltech NEXUS R5 and tuned by Patrick Barnhill of PTP Racing. For a more in-depth look, check out DragZine’s coverage of it HERE.

Jay Boddie debuted his Kurupt Camaro a few months ago, and this blue beauty has its eyes set on Street Outlaws No Prep Kings for 2022. The car has a NEXUS R5 onboard handling all of the engine control and PDM duties, and Jay relies on an iC-7 display to feed him info as he rockets down the track. It had an impressive outing at SCSN in Las Vegas in November and you can expect Jay and the whole Boddie Racing Team to be a big contender next season!

All-Out Performance, announced their new EFI Sprint Car engine package this year. The 408″ LS-based engine is a radical departure from the traditional 410″ mechanically injected engines typically found in modern dirt sprint racecars. They’re hoping this new package will extend the amount of time between rebuilds and lower overall customer cost. We are thrilled to see our Elite 2000 ECU and iC-7 display onboard!
This was an awesome way for us to round out the year as we look onward to more events and epic customer builds in 2022. If you have an event coming up that you would like us to know about, let us know on social media!

St Agatha’s Hill Climb
This year’s St. Agatha hill climb in Austria was a true motorsport festival. More than 17,000 spectators came out in great weather to see top-class mountain racing and witness a new class course record from Haltech racer Karl Schagerl!

Karl has been having a fantastic year in his Haltech-equipped VW Golf Rallye TFSI-R. Not only was he able to re-set his own 2019 course by almost one second, with a time of 1:10.05s. He was the fastest touring car driver over the weekend and winner of the over 2000cc class.

He also now leads the FIA Central European Zone Hill Climb Championship on points – outright.

Rene Warmuth also secured a class victory in the up to 1600cc class at the wheel of his grey-black Haltech-equipped VW Polo 2 16V. He was able to prevail against the strong competition, making the climb in a very impressive 1:21s on his second run up the hill.

Haltech was strongly represented in the up to 2000cc class as well. Michael Emsenhuber claimed 4th place in class driving his fantastically presented Haltech-equipped VW Corrado 16V.

Patrick Mayer was sixth in class with his VW Minichberger Golf Mk1 16V, and also a crowd favourite with spectators along the route thanks to his entertaining driving style.

Eighth place in the class went to Andreas Miletich from Burgenland in his white Haltech-equipped VW Nemeth Scirocco 16V. A very impressive performance seeing as this was his first start at St. Agatha.

Styrian Georg Stix secured 12th place in class in his Haltech-equipped blue and yellow Renault Clio Cup 2. This was one of his best performances since his comeback to hill climb racing.

As is always the way in motorsport, sometimes it just isn’t your day. After setting the fourth-fastest time in his class during the first heat, an engine issue for Manuel Michalko and his Haltech-equipped Citroen Saxo RP 5.1 Turbo meant he was unable to continue the event and ended with a DNF.

Heiko Fiausch, unfortunately, spun his Opel Risse Astra STW on his first climb of the year. Hitting the guardrail, the rear of the grey-orange car was seriously damaged and he was unable to complete the event.

Jürgen Halbartschlager had been having a great weekend in his VW Nemeth Golf 17 until he too crashed out, seriously damaging the car. Luckily Jürgen was unharmed in the accident.

25th Haltech World Cup Finals
The 25th annual Haltech World Cup Finals was arguably one of the best runnings yet! 400 racers invaded Maryland International Raceway for a 5-day battle to see who was the quickest on the property.

With over 10 classes on tap, spectators got a chance to see a little bit of everything that drag racing had to offer. We were fortunate enough to be on-site providing tech support and got to witness our customers take home three class wins!
Radial vs. Modified

Radial vs. Modified was one of the quickest classes of the week, with racers running deep into the six-second zone on a small drag radial. Haltech Hero Bill Lutz sent shockwaves through the field after he went 6.187 @ 227 MPH in qualifying, confidently putting him atop the ladder for eliminations.

Bill and his screw-blown Camaro Pro Mod was dealt hard racing and broken parts through eliminations and faced fellow Haltech controlled racer Andy Manson in the final round. Andy and his twin-turbo Mustang just came off an impressive run at No Mercy in October and qualified #4 for this event with an equally impressive 6.503 @ 211 MPH.

Both drivers pre-staged, waiting for the other to turn on the second bulb, after several tense seconds, Andy lit the final stage bulb. The tree dropped and Andy had a slight reaction time advantage, but Bill’s 60 foot was arguably better. It was dead even until the 100-foot mark when Bill suddenly broke loose ending the race. Andy cruised to a 6.458 @ 201 taking home the win! Congratulations to both drivers for a great effort this past week and for putting on an awesome show for spectators!
Wild Street

David Consentino has been flying the MK3 Supra banner for several years and his car can proudly claim the title of World’s Fastest MK3. The 2J powered Supra set a new personal best in qualifying with an impressive 7.619 @ 182 MPH in the cool Maryland air. Although that was good enough to put him fifth in qualifying for the Wild Street class, eliminations proved to be tough as there was a .3 spread between the top five cars.

Always up for a challenge, David dug deep and kept edging out wins, round after round until facing the #1 qualifier of Christine Dodworth and her ‘13 GTR in the finals. Both cars staged, but David got way out ahead on the tree and Christine played catch up through the rest of the pass. David not only took home the win but backed up his previous record with a 7.622 @ 183 MPH. Huge shoutout to David and his team for an epic victory in a very tough class!
All Motor

When you think of an all motor class, you might picture Domestic cars with V8’s and you would be right. But Adam Hall likes to do things differently, and his ‘97 Honda Civic with its naturally aspirated K24 is one mean little front-wheel-drive racer. After qualifying fifth with a 9.404 @ 144, Adam was stuck in the bottom half of the ladder where he had to face faster cars all weekend.

Adam made his way through the field and faced off against Keith Vaughn and his LS3 powered ‘87 Corvette in the final round. Keith left first and packed the front wheels to the 60-foot mark, but Adam didn’t give up. Slowly reeling the C4 Corvette in through the entire pass, the little Civic crossed the line less than half a car length in the lead. Not only did Adam take home the win, he set a new personal best with a 9.357 @ 145 MPH. A great way to cap off a tough, but a rewarding week, great work Adam!
Honorable Mentions
There can only be so many winners, but we’d still like to give a nod to these Haltech controlled racers who put in a great effort this past week at World Cup Finals.

Mark Benston Jr. is a true wheelman, racking up win lights all over the country. This past week he brought his new hot rod, an ‘02 Camaro with a 959 powerplant, to take on the top-dog Outlaw vs. Extreme class. The best part? They wired in a Nexus R5 at the racetrack on Wednesday!
As Mark tells us, he “Got the car up and running and planned for testing on Thursday. But when that got cancelled, we had to go straight into qualifying. The second run on the new system, we ran a 5.89 @ 222 MPH! This was on a planned early shut off pass that put us number #3 qualifier.”
An incredible feat, and after taking out both imports in rounds 1 & 2 he looked to be a top contender. Unfortunately, a mishap with an unplugged sensor ended his weekend and he did not advance past the semi-finals. We look forward to seeing what this combination can do next season!

Jacob Conant and his beautiful ‘14 Ford GT500 made the trek to World Cup Finals to try and take home the win in Street Fighter. After multiple passes in the cool Maryland air, Jacob qualified third with his 7.107 @ 189 MPH blast. Putting up the good fight, he went multiple rounds but unfortunately ended his weekend in the semi-finals. We want to thank Jacob for choosing us to control his wicked fast Mustang and wish him good luck this weekend at the ModNationals event in Georgia.

Devin Schultz has been trying to break into the six-second 1/4 mile zone for the last few seasons and this year he came closer than ever! His all-wheel-drive DSM reset his existing E.T. record and claimed the H-pattern shifted MPH record with a 7.012 @ 216 MPH pass in Stick Shift eliminations! It’s likely we will see him finally get that six-second time slip next season!
See you all next year!
We want to thank all of our customers who made the long haul to Maryland and helped make the 25th Haltech World Cup finals one of the best ever! While the season draws to a close, we look forward to seeing what new combinations our customers come up with for 2022!

Haltech Highlights – SEMA 2021
SEMA – where the best, the baddest, the weird and the wonderful are unveiled. Back in full swing after the COVID-restricted 2020, SEMA showcased all the automotive eye candy that we’ve come to expect from the biggest car show on earth.
There was, of course, a sizeable Haltech contingent that included a Tesla!

Rich Rebuilds epic, yet controversial build. Epic, because it’s a Tesla and controversial because it’s LS-powered. The LS is controlled by a Haltech ECU and if look closely and you’ll also notice a Haltech iC-7 dash installed right under the massive centre console.

As if to do the exact opposite to Rich Rebuilds, the guys from Salvage to Savage built a Tesla-powered C10 truck! The Tesla electric setup utilizes an iC-7 display dash and a CAN keypad.

And just to prove they’re not all about electric vehicles, Salvage To Savage also debuted their twin-turbo LS, Haltech-controlled DeLorean. GREAT SCOTT!

One of the most hotly discussed builds at this year’s SEMA was, without a doubt, Bruce Yeager’s Street Aero 2JZ-powered, Haltech-controlled Lamborghini. Hated by the purists but admired by the rest, the build is exactly what you would expect to see at SEMA – big, bold, controversial, and well-executed.

The Toyo Tires Treadpass stand hosted some of the most incredible builds at this year’s show. One of the main attractions was the unveiling of Jonny Grunwald’s TCP Magic “Heritage 7” Mazda FD RX-7.

Powered by a 20B turbo with 6-speed sequential transmission, the car is controlled by Haltech’s Elite 2500 ECU.

Also on the Toyo Tires Treadpass was one of our personal favourites. Shawn from Attacking The Clock Racing has really outdone himself with this build. Super clean, super-aggressive, and super cool, this 2JZ powered, Haltech-controlled GS400 time attack monster picked up the Best Performance Car Award as well as getting placed in the top 40 Battle of the Builders.

Larry Chen reckons Brandon Miller built one of the most interesting cars at this year’s SEMA Show. It’s hard to argue with that, a naturally aspirated, Haltech-controlled RB28 capable of revving out to 12k RPM in a Z31 ticks a lot of boxes!

Nothing was overlooked on this build and no corners cut. “It was inspired by the 240z 432. We all know the Z31 is a bit unloved in the Z community, but with builds like these I’m sure more people will take a second look at this platform.” Photos by Larry Chen.

This beautiful Mazda RX-7FD was built by Eccentric Motorsports and made our rotary hearts very happy. We loved the colour too..

We loved the LOJ Conversions Corp’s menacing twin-turbo LS-swapped Nissan Frontier. Partly because it was a uber-cool build and partly because it reminded us of the Aussie Super Utes!

It’s always good to see an old-school Datsun on display at SEMA. Especially one that has a NEXUS-controlled SR20 under the bonnet!

Forrest Wang’s RB-powered, all-carbon drift S15.
Tyler Hard wins the Superchargers Showdown
Hard Racing are back in the winners’ circle with a spectacular win at the 31st Annual Snap-on Racing Superchargers Showdown.
Held at the Maryland International Raceway on September 23rd and 24th the event attracted a huge field of nitrous injected, supercharged, and turbocharged Pro Mods running the full 1/4 mile at speeds over 250mph.

The Hard Racing Team fielded both of their Procharged, Haltech controlled Camaros with Tyler Hard taking his car all the way to the top and taking out the win.

Tyler’s 1968 Camaro Pro Mod is powered by Noonan Hemi-based 521ci, producing in excess of 3000hp. A ProCharger reliably provides 50 odd pounds of boost with an all-Haltech engine management system controlling everything with Patrick Barnhill from PTP Racing at the keys.

Congratulations to the whole Hard Racing team on a well-deserved victory!

Glenn Hunter wins at the Hot Rod Drag Week
The aim of the Hot Rod Drag Week is to find America’s fastest street car and the event’s premise is rather simple; take a field of the toughest street cars in the country and make them race at five different race tracks over five days. Oh, and the race cars have to be driven from one track to the next while being totally self-sufficient.

The Hot Rod Drag Week is widely considered to be the most gruelling race event in the world with only the smartest, toughest and most dedicated teams left standing at the end of the five-day ordeal.

Competing at this year’s event in the Pro Street Power Adder class was a Drag Week veteran Glenn Hunter Jr.

His ride was a gorgeous, all-steel, full interior 1956 Chevrolet Belair with a show-quality finish.

Much like its exterior, the engine bay is show-spec and houses a 540ci Chevy V8 with an aluminium block and Brodix heads. It is mated to a Turbo 400 transmission, with a healthy dose of boost being provided by a pair of 88mm BorgWarner turbos.

The whole car is controlled by a Haltech NEXUS R5 with an iC-7 digital display looking at home on the classic Belair dashboard.

Glen’s Drag Week campaign did not start well with a broken hose causing boost issues. By the end of Day 1 however, with the hose replaced, the Chevy produced a 7.527 and 188.6mph result.

Things improved even further in Norwalk with Glenn ending Day 2 with a 7.339 and 190.83mph.

Day 3 saw Glenn record a 7.387 and 187.83mph and move to the top spot in his class with over 1-second gap to the second place.

Glenn moved a step closer to a class win with a 7.559 and 185.54mph on Day 4 in Byron, Illinois and cemented his class dominance on the final day with the average ET of 7.43 at 198 mph giving him not only a class win but a 4th overall place at the event.

Congratulations to Glenn on an outstanding effort! Read the Haltech Highlights from the Hot Rod Drag Week 2021 here.

Multiple Podiums for Haltech at GridLife

Fans and racers alike were treated with good music, great track conditions, and gorgeous weather at the annual GridLife Midwest festival held at South Haven, MI. Haltech racers stood on the podium in three classes and took home the win in two!
Club TR – Track Battle Time Attack

Club TR is an entry-level class intended for amateurs to get their feet wet in lightly modified cars. Matt Williams and his red FC Mazda RX7 were using his Elite 1500 to lay down some impressive lap times around Gingerman Raceway.
The class rules require a stock internal engine, full interior, and a spec-tire to keep the race cheap and competitive. The Elite 1500 and its boost control helped keep the small rotary wound tight and Matt was able to take the class win.

Grant Davidson in his K24 powered Acura Integra also put on a strong showing, but two broken axles put a damper on his charge for the top spot. Although he got the Elite 1500 controlled car back together, track conditions prevented him from laying down a final fast lap. His 3rd place showing was enough for a podium finish and secured him 2nd in the season points championship.
StreetMod – Track Battle Time Attack

StreetMod is the premiere “Entry-Level Class” for GridLife events, featuring highly modified cars with a license plate. Full interiors, a 200 treadwear tire, and no horsepower restrictions mean that there are some big horsepower cars putting down quick laps.
Shawn Krebsbach knows a thing or two about fast EVO’s and his Mitsubishi EVO 9 has been evolving with the StreetMod class for the last few years. With our new flagship Nexus R5 VCU on board, Shawn was one of the fastest cars on the property! Taking home the class win and bragging rights leading into the next event, we look forward to seeing him finish out the season.

Eric “Dewey” Dewitt and his Subaru Impreza known as The Boogeyman has wreaked havoc on the StreetMod class for several seasons. The all-wheel-drive car utilizes an Elite 2500 to handle the boxer engine, and boost control. Dewey put in a solid effort to come home with a 3rd place finish. Nice work guys!
GridLife Touring Cup (GLTC)

The premier class for GridLife, GLTC features wheel to wheel racing with a ton of parity to keep the field diverse but competitive. Reigning champ Eric Kutil had the points lead coming into the event but a wild incident allowed others to catch up. Eric was following a car into the final corner of the race when all of a sudden his brakes failed completely. Eric threw the car into a slide to scrub down speed and thankfully walked away with no injuries and no severe damage to his car.

Tom O’ Gorman brought his Elite 1500 controlled Honda S2000 to GLTC MidWest looking to improve on his 5th place points standing. Tom had just won the SCCA Solo Nationals championship in his Acura NSX, and that doubled his efforts to do well at Gingerman. The S2000 was extremely fast all weekend and the beautiful weather did nothing to hold him back. While he couldn’t take home the win, his 2nd place finish will definitely help inch closer to the points leaders.

Aside from the music and great racing, GridLife also had a ton of fantastic drifting on display over the weekend. We even had our own Haltech USA employee Andrew Dimartino bring out his Lexus SC300 powered by a hybrid 1J/2J powerplant. The Elite 2500 and iC-7 display helped Andrew monitor climbing temperatures as he let it all hang out on the Gingerman Raceway circuit.
While there was no class or trophy specific to drifting, we did manage to snag some great photos. Check them out!
