Haltech Horsepower Heroes – Summernats 36

The annual Summernats. A place where the love of loud V8s and questionable haircuts brings the car enthusiasts of Australia together once a year.

There is a lot to see at the 4-day event, but what we’re here for is the Haltech Horsepower Heroes Dyno competition.

Any Summerntas entrant can show the power of their muscle car on the hub dyno, run by the guys at MPW Performance and Race Fab.

The way the competition works is on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, each entrant has 3 dyno pulls to achieve their highest power figure. Then on Sunday in the finals, the slate is wiped clean. Only the power runs recorded on Sunday by the top 3 of each class are eligible to take out the win.

The classes consist of Naturally Aspirated Six Cylinder, Naturally Aspirated Eight Cylinder, Boosted Six Cylinder, and Boosted Eight Cylinder.

The boosted classes were filled with heavy hitters, with nearly every finalist pushing out over 1000hp.

The highly anticipated VL Commodore “MAKDDY” built by Maatouk’s Racing, took the Boosted Six class by storm with an impressive 2365 horsepower run in the finals claiming the win.

MAKDDY” also managed a 2504hp run at 79psi in qualifying, which locked him in as the outright power record holder for a Haltech Horsepower Heroes competitor.

Wrapping up the Boosted Eight Cylinder class was reigning champion, Cody Hunt in his twin-turbo VE Commodore wagon, hoping to take the outright title for a second year.

While missing out on the outright win, Cody still managed to take home the class trophy with 1747hp.

Jason Kosis won the Naturally Aspirated Six Cylinder class in his beautiful Ford FG XR6 Falcon with 221hp run.

Shadi Tobaji‘s “RAW TC” Cortina took the Naturally Aspirated Eight Cylinder class win with a 728hp run.
