Haltech is previewing the Ti8HP at SEMA 2026

The Ti8HP is a transmission interface that brings the ZF 8HP eight-speed automatic into the Haltech ecosystem. It pairs with a drive-by-wire Nexus ECU, and it is on display at our stand at the SEMA Show 2026 (Booth #23661)

What is a Ti8HP?

The Ti8HP is not a transmission controller. The gearbox’s own control unit still does the shift logic. The ECU sends the signals the gearbox needs, such as engine torque, and the Ti8HP handles the connection between them. It reads the original gearbox binary and flashes the Haltech binary through the Haltech system, so no third-party software or reflash tools are needed.

The Ti8HP comes with a pre-terminated harness that plugs straight into the transmission connector on Haltech’s terminated harnesses, so there is no wiring to do. It can also be wired into any other drive-by-wire Nexus ECU or VCU. Shifters that fit include factory BMW F and G series and Supra A90 units, plus direct inputs such as wired-in paddles, a CAN keypad, or a resistor ladder.

Out of the box, it runs and drives as per factory. You will need to adjust the prefilled torque table, and from there you can tune the shift feel from the ECU. The torque value sets line pressure and clamping force, shift load correction makes small shift point adjustments, upshift torque reduction sharpens upshifts, and downshift throttle opening smooths the downshift blip. Transmission fault codes also show on the ECU.

We are aiming to add trans brake, clutch control, and custom shift points at a later date.

Release timing and price

We are planning to release the Ti8HP in the first quarter of 2027, with the date to be confirmed. The price is expected to be the same as our other Ti units (see the table below), and it includes the pre-terminated harness. Launch gearbox support covers the 8HP45, 8HP70, and 8HP90 (Gen 1), and Gen 2 support is planned for later.

FAQs

Can I pre-order it now? No, pre-orders are not open yet. We are aiming to release the Ti8HP in the first quarter of 2027, so keep an eye on the Haltech website and our socials for updates.

How much will it cost? It is expected to be the same as our other Ti units, and the price includes the pre-terminated harness.

Region Price Tax
United States US$450 Excludes sales tax
Australia AU$595 Includes GST
New Zealand NZ$650 Includes GST
United Kingdom £335 Includes VAT
Europe €300 Excludes VAT

What do I need?

    • A Gen 1 8HP45, 8HP70, or 8HP90
    • A compatible shifter
    • A Nexus R series, Nexus S series, Nexus Rebel, or Nexus Plug-in ECU with electronic throttle control set up
    • A brake pedal input wired to the ECU

The 8HP has no one-way clutches, so every downshift needs a throttle blip to match revs. That is why the Ti8HP needs a drive-by-wire ECU, and why T series ECUs are not supported.

Which shifters are compatible?

    • Factory BMW F series shifters (up/down shift)

    • Factory BMW G series shifters (up/down shift)

    • Factory Toyota Supra A90 shifters

    • Wired-in paddle shifters

    • A CAN keypad

    • A resistor ladder

Do I need any third-party reflashing tool or software? No. The Ti8HP reads the original gearbox binary and flashes the Haltech binary through the Haltech system, so no third-party software or reflash tools are needed.

Do I need to wire anything in? Not if you are using a Nexus Rebel terminated harness, such as the Rebel LS, Rebel JZ, or Rebel K. The Ti8HP harness plugs straight in. It can also be wired in to any other drive-by-wire Nexus ECU or VCU. Either way, you will need a brake pedal input to the ECU.

Why a separate box? The 8HP’s control unit talks CAN at the OEM rate of 500 kb/s, while Haltech CAN runs at 1 Mb/s, so the two cannot share a bus. With a Ti8HP, you do not need to dedicate one of your Haltech ECU’s CAN ports to a 500 kb/s bus just for the gearbox, so the spare CAN port is free to talk to the rest of the car (ABS, a BCM, or a factory dash) and other devices. Because it comes with a plug-and-play harness, there is no need to build your own harness or buy one for a similar price. The Ti8HP keeps everything cleanly separated, which keeps installs and fault-finding simple.
