St Agatha’s Hill Climb

This year’s St. Agatha hill climb in Austria was a true motorsport festival. More than 17,000 spectators came out in great weather to see top-class mountain racing and witness a new class course record from Haltech racer Karl Schagerl!

Karl has been having a fantastic year in his Haltech-equipped VW Golf Rallye TFSI-R. Not only was he able to re-set his own 2019 course by almost one second, with a time of 1:10.05s. He was the fastest touring car driver over the weekend and winner of the over 2000cc class.

He also now leads the FIA Central European Zone Hill Climb Championship on points – outright.

Rene Warmuth also secured a class victory in the up to 1600cc class at the wheel of his grey-black Haltech-equipped VW Polo 2 16V. He was able to prevail against the strong competition, making the climb in a very impressive 1:21s on his second run up the hill.

Haltech was strongly represented in the up to 2000cc class as well. Michael Emsenhuber claimed 4th place in class driving his fantastically presented Haltech-equipped VW Corrado 16V.

Patrick Mayer was sixth in class with his VW Minichberger Golf Mk1 16V, and also a crowd favourite with spectators along the route thanks to his entertaining driving style.

Eighth place in the class went to Andreas Miletich from Burgenland in his white Haltech-equipped VW Nemeth Scirocco 16V. A very impressive performance seeing as this was his first start at St. Agatha.

Styrian Georg Stix secured 12th place in class in his Haltech-equipped blue and yellow Renault Clio Cup 2. This was one of his best performances since his comeback to hill climb racing.

As is always the way in motorsport, sometimes it just isn’t your day. After setting the fourth-fastest time in his class during the first heat, an engine issue for Manuel Michalko and his Haltech-equipped Citroen Saxo RP 5.1 Turbo meant he was unable to continue the event and ended with a DNF.

Heiko Fiausch, unfortunately, spun his Opel Risse Astra STW on his first climb of the year. Hitting the guardrail, the rear of the grey-orange car was seriously damaged and he was unable to complete the event.

Jürgen Halbartschlager had been having a great weekend in his VW Nemeth Golf 17 until he too crashed out, seriously damaging the car. Luckily Jürgen was unharmed in the accident.
